I’ll admit it. I have a thing for mirrors. It’s not that my house looks like a disco ball or anything. And I don’t have any of those bad 70’s mirror tiles on the wall. I just really like the look of wall mirrors in just about any (or every) room. I actually have one wall in my house that showcases a pretty large ‘collection’ of mirrors.

Metro Round Mirror
I was shopping at CharlesKeath
today and was completely blown away by their selection of mirrors.

Rectangular Mirror, 24W x 48H
From the traditional to ultra modern, tiny to totally humongous. Wall mirrors. Floor mirrors.

Reproduction Window Mirrors, pr.
Looks like my collection will soon be growing!

If you’re shopping for one of those people who really does have everything, you know how hard it can be. Think outside the box year and inside the pages. Instead of adding to the ‘everything’ that he or she already has, pay tribute to it (or some part of it, anyway) with a beautiful book. Collectors always enjoy unusual books and catalogs featuring the objects of their desire – and a topical book always shows that you’ve put a lot of personal thought into your gift.

If there’s a brand new book that’s appropriate, that’s great. But if there isn’t – no worries. Find something unusual and out of print – your gift will have much more meaning. For some people, an older and more obscure book could be a better choice. A used book is just fine if it’s older and out of print and that’s all you can find. Again, sometimes even better. Be specific. Find something that pays homage to what the recipient loves most. Maybe that book from the Guggenheim exhibit The Art of the Motorcycle for a Harley Davidson enthusiast. Or the catalog from the Met’s Ferragamo show, The Art of the Shoe, for a Manolo addict. How about a book of historical photos of their home town or alma mater? Or a photo history of the die-hard fan’s beloved team. Get the idea?

Run!!!!! If you’re a Chanel girl you’ve got to run IMMEDIATELY over to YOOX.COM
.
They’ve just launched a Tribute to Chanel vintage sale. The online pieces show off house signatures: Quilted bags, pearls of every measure, camellia-strewn belts and necklaces, and tweeds are all in the mix. Holly Brubach, former style editor of the New York Times, helped curate the selection and has included some collectibles from her personal archive. You can view the pieces online (theoretically) from now through 12/15/2007, but last time they put together a collection like this it sold out in less than 24 hours. How’d you like to be able to capture and preserve some of those precious vintage tracks? Who wouldn’t? Wouldn’t it be even better if you could convert those vinul records into digital music – formatted for your MP3 player or for CD burning. Yes! And guess what – you can do just that! And for a lot less money than you’d expect.

The Ion Audio USB Turntable (IA002)
from Sharper Image ($199.95) is just what you need. Simply connect it to your computer and a few clicks later, your classic record collection will be spinning it’s way into the 21st century.

A great gift for any music collector!
