It’s still a bit too early in the season to do much outdoor gardening other than clean-up, but it’s not too soon at all to get some beautiful containers planted and ready to enjoy once the weather improves.
I’m absolutely enamored with these eden planters I found over at Chiasso.
The larger one is $98; the smaller sells for $68.
Check them out at Chiasso, along with a lot more beautiful decorative pieces for the garden, elegant gifts for any occasion and exquisite modern furniture as well.

Even though we’re in the midst of non-stop winter weather, there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. By mid-January the days become noticeably longer – and it’s actually time to start thinking about the spring garden.

First step – order your spring bulbs and specialty annuals. Take advantage of pre-season pricing.

And enjoy a much fuller selection. Exotic items are available only in limited supply, so when it comes to gardening it really is true that the early bird gets the worm.

Early shopping also means early delivery and savvy gardeners know that early indoor forcing can give you a huge head start on next season’s spectactular!

It’s always a battle – the gardener versus the creatures enjoying the garden. On the one hand, those pesty critters are a good sign, nature’s indication that your garden is healthy and a place that pests find inviting. On the other hand – they’re pests. Ick! And getting rid of them can be such a battle. And there are so few non-toxic eco-friendly options at the local garden center.

This is the 30th year that ARBICO Organics
has been providing natural products for organic living – including the best selection of natural and organic pest control solutions just about anywhere.
Save 10% on all orders of $100 or more. Enter coupon code CW100 at checkout. If you only need a couple of items, enter coupon code MC50 to save 5% on all products. No minimum order required. Both of these are ongoing offers.

If your Dad loves to garden, then indulge his green thumb this year on Father’s Day.

Gardening tools and implements are always a good choice. Decorative items and planters work well, too.

And, of course, you can’t go wrong with bulbs or live plants – particularly if you select something just a bit unusual that Dad wouldn’t find at the neighborhood garden center.

It’s quickly becoming prime gardening season here in Chicago and all over the country. Already a few of my braver neighbors have planted their annuals and filled their window boxes. I’m not as confident that we won’t have one more cold blast before blooming weather is here to stay. That’s a bit of a lie – the truth is that I just haven’t been organized enough to get it done. It’s a big job – going to the garden center, trying to create a design for my window boxes from whatever they have available and then running home to get the planting done ASAP. It’s an event. I’ve found a way to get those container gardens rolling with a bit less effort – at Windowbox.com
.

It’s a one stop shopping source for things related to container gardening. Windowbox.com
offers a vast collection of gardening containers, custom windowboxes and supplies. They also provide all kinds of useful information, advice, and everything you need to experience the joys of growing plants in containers. They call what they do ‘horticultural therapy’. They’re committed to the idea that bringing people and plants together makes the world a better place.

It’s time for yard and garden clean-up! And it seems like raking the leaves is just the beginning. Pruning, mulching, feeding. Plants to re-pot for a winter indoors. And all those things that won’t be used until spring need to be cleaned and stored away in the garage or basement. I’m exhausted just thinking about it and of course, there’s the supplies. From leaf shredders, blowers and burlap wraps to garage organization and storage solutions. Gardener’s Supply has all the supplies, tools and timesaving solutions you could possibly need for the annual ritual. And to honor the fall clean up season – they’ve even issued a 10% off coupon. I must admit that saving on the supplies does make the official end of my gardening season a bit easier to swallow.

I’ve been shopping for garden edgers and just couldn’t find the perfect thing. Stone edgers would be too much of a production in terms of installation and would be just too heavy for this flower bed. That fake white picket fence stuff wasn’t working for me either. Today I found the perfect solution.

Set/3 black & green glass edgers
Classic garden accents…touched with a little something extra! Black, weather-resistant metal edgers are complemented with 3 gorgeous, recycled green-glass insets with floral bas-relief. Deep stakes for stability. Set of 3 edgers. Each edger is 20×15″H — set of 3 creates 5 feet of edging and sells for $24.98. It doesn’t stop with edgers, either. They’ve got a terrific selection of outdoor decor, gardening gear and patio furniture. Everything you need to create your own great outdoors.
And of course we’ve got a coupon! The more you spend the more you save. Save 10% on your next order of $50 or more or 15% on your next order of $75 or more. Enter the coupon code above at checkout.

Punctuality and planning ahead are admirable traits, generally rewarded with success and positive results. Gardeners know this as well as anyone. The longer you wait to get started for the season…. Well, you know the rest. Fewer options. Poorer results. Squandered opportunities. Never fear, that cloud has a silver lining in the form of big savings! While most online nurseries and garden supply houses have long since sold out of some of their most popular or unusual plants and bulbs, much of what’s remaining for summer planting is on sale for as much as 50% off! Sometimes even more. Couple that with a coupon code or discount offer and you can find yourself saving 75% or more!

The quality and health of what you get when you order direct from the nursery far exceeds anything you’ll find at your local garden center. Not to mention the selection. And the savings, of course!

It was a PERFECT day here in Chicago. Warm and sunny and beautiful. AND a reminder of how much more there is to be done in the garden. Now that the clean up is behind me, I’m adding some perennials here and there and turning my attention to my containers and furniture and other decorative items. Like most gardeners, whenever the weather allows, I use my garden as another room of my house – a place to relax, a place to work, a place to eat and a place to entertain. And every year it seems I need something new – whether it’s containers or storage or seating or a water feature…. If you’re a gardener then you know exactly what I mean. And if you’re shopping….Find your outdoor essentials at LillianVernon.com
They’ve got a great selection of garden gear, planters, lighting, patio furniture, decor and more. You’ll be impressed with the quality, selection and value. They’ve got everything you need to create your own personal oasis.

There’s nothing like the taste of a just picked tomato. Bursting with flavor and freshness. Nothing like the flavorless watery tomotoes from the supermarket. Even in a big city, perfect tomatoes can be hard to find. But they aren’t that hard to grow. Especially when you start with the fabulous NY Times endorsed organic heirloom tomato plants. Feed your tomato habit with live heirlooms from Windowbox.com!
They’ve got countless varieties, colors and tastes. All heirloom tomato plants and seedlings are 100% organically grown in California.
Tomatoes are a perfect choice for urbanites as the plants are well suited to container gardening.
