After a much too brief vacation in France, I’m craving all things haut. While I must concede that the French reign supreme on most culinary delights, there is chocolatier right here in Chicago whose delectable creations rival anything you’ll find in Paris. Or anywhere else on the planet. Vosges Haut-Chocolat

Perfection does not begin to describe these chocolates. Vosges Haut-Chocolat are made from the finest ingredients offered around the world. Owner/Chocolatier, Katrina Markoff, personally chooses every spice, flower and chocolate that comes into their Chicago kitchen. The Vosges Haut-Chocolat mission is to create a luxury chocolate experience rooted in a sensory journey of bringing about awareness to indigenous cultures through the exploration of spices, herbs, roots, flowers, fruits, nuts, chocolate and the obscure.

I popped by the Vosges Haut-Chocolat boutique on Armitage Avenue today. Where else would I go for exotic truffles to bring to a gastronomic wine pairings dinner party? I sampled my way around the selections, finally settling on the Rock & Roll (dark chocolate truffles with clove) and a Balsamic and Hazlenut creation that made me weak at the knees. The y was surprisingly tempting – smoky yet subtle. Not at all what I expected.

If you’re lucky enough to live in or visit a city that includes a Vosges Haut-Chocolat boutique, I strongly suggest you stop by and check it out for yourself. If not, you can shop online and sometimes find Vosges Haut-Chocolat at your local Whole Foods or other luxury food purveyor.

A Cold Day in July…

It’s a cold day in July. Again. I’m starting to wonder if global warming is a rumor. I don’t ever remember it being this cold in Chicago in July. Usually it’s so hot that it’s almost impossible to be outside at all. While it’s true that there are certain benefits to this unseasonably cool weather (like not needing the A/C all the time and how wonderful it is to sleep with a cool breeze) there are also some serious wardrobe dilemmas that come with that wonderful cool breeze. Like not wanting to throw on the same sweater you wore all winter just because the temperature has dipped below 65 degrees. Or the same lightweight leather jacket you’re going to be wearing all through the fall. It’s time for summer layering pieces. Unfortunately I don’t really have any. So I’m shopping.

This One’s Not Just For The Kids…

I’m about to share one of my deep, dark fashion secrets. Truth be told it’s not that deep and dark and frankly not much of a secret either. But the bottom line is this. I confess. I sometimes shop at EXPRESS.

I know – you think I’m some sort of major designer diva and you know that EXPRESS is also a top shopping destination for every hip 15 year old girl on the planet.

It’s not one of my most frequent shopping destinations, but I’ll pop into the store when I’m at the mall or surf the EXPRESS website every now and again and there are often some cute little finds that are just perfect wardrobe fillers. From basic shells and funky cardigans other casual basics – and way beyond. Over the years I’ve had more than my share of terrific finds at EXPRESS. I once found an amazing microfiber tank dress there for about $20, paired it with a 10 year old Ungaro jacket and some kick-ass Robert Clergerie ankle straps and created an outfit that has seen me through quite a few black-tie dilemmas over the years.
Just thought I’d share.

I Finally Did It!

Those of you who know me best know all to well about the pathetically small and old televisions at my house. It’s ironic because I really LOVE to watch TV. It’s ridiculous because the rooms in my house are huge and the televisions are beyond tiny. I’d been threatening to replace them for years. Well, I finally bit the bullet. I bought a 26 inch flat screen HDTV LCD television for my bedroom about two weeks ago and I was so thrilled that last night I ordered a new 32 inch flat screen HDTV LCD television / DVD combo. I can hardly wait for it to arrive!

Best of all – I paid less than $250 for the 26 inch television and less than $325 for the 32 inch TV / DVD combo unit.

Wondering where I found such unbelievable bargains? Overstock.com – where else!

It’s crazy how many old cell phones and chargers most people have sitting around the house. I have a huge drawer in my office filled with nothing but cell phones and phone accessories. I’d love to get rid of all that stuff – but I never really had a clue of what to do with all of it. It’s not like I’m going to toss a bunch of cell phones in the garbage can.
